5.0 out of 5 stars So comfy and very effective too
Recent temperatures have been so high that it seemed nothing short of masochistic to order a heating pad in the middle of a heatwave when I could barely step outside for fear of sun stroke! However, I am prone to aches and pains, I live in an old stone cottage that does suffer from cold and damp in winter, and I have a cat, so I kept telling myself there would come a time when I would be grateful for this. Little did I know how soon I would have occasion to test it! Last week I picked up a bit of a bug and one of the unfortunate symptoms was terrible abdominal cramps. Between the drop in temperature and the pain I was in, I figured it was time to give this heat pad a test drive and I was so glad that I did. It is a generous size and wonderfully soft and cuddly - although you are aware of wires running through it, it’s still totally comfortable to hold and snuggle with. It also achieves a surprising level of heat at its highest setting, so do go carefully and make sure to have an insulating layer between your skin and the heating pad. There are 6 heating levels to vary the temperature between 30 and 62 degrees, and also a timer which allows you to set the heat to turn off after 30 min, 1 hour, 90 min, or 2 hours. All settings are easily controlled via a box attached to the lead and the whole thing is conveniently powered via USB so no need to be close to a socket. Apparently you can also spritz it with water for a damp heat, though I have not yet tried this. It does seem like a really useful option that I will definitely test in future though. As for my cramps, this worked wonders on them and I predict I will be getting loads of use from it this winter too. I love the timer settings and it will be perfect for warming the bed while I am in the bath or similar. It’s currently priced at £22.99 and I’d be more than happy to purchase it for that price, in fact this is something I would rate very highly as a practical gift idea too.
5.0 out of 5 stars 6 heat levels, easy to use
A good sized heat pad to use anywhere on your body. My mum is disabled and has arthritis, so this is perfect alternative to hot water bottles where it stays at a constant temperature. Really easy to use. It has a 2.1m lengthy power cord with a standard 3 pin plug and a straightforward control panel to operate. 4 press buttons; power, timer and 2 heat buttons to adjust the temperature. A little display screen shows which heat setting you have selected and also a timer showing how long it will be powered on for before switching its self off. It has 6 heat settings, ranging from 30 degrees to 68 degrees and 4 timer functions; 1h, 2h, 4h, 6h. The pad is quite soft to touch and not too heavyweight. It's quite comfortable placed on you. You're able to adjust the heat to suit your needs. It still keeps warm for a while after switching it off. It's also a great way of keeping you warm. The pad, minus the lead, is even machine washable. No problems or issues. Really pleased with it.
5.0 out of 5 stars This really does get hot
Ive tried and tested many heat pads over the years and some provide a heat output far better than others. As i like it very hot, this pad delivers. There are several heat settings plus a timer so you can put it on and if you should doze off the timer will turn it off for you. Fabric is soft and found the wire elements very thin so you dont feel hard ridges.I really am very impressed as I only know of one other heat pad (which I own) that is as goid as this and that doesnt have the timer selector.
4.0 out of 5 stars Fine but dull grey colour not purple or blue.
This arrives in a neatly printed box measuring approx 35.5cm x 9.5cm x just under 10cm.It would be easy to wrap & make a nice gift for anyone really, especially those who work from home & don't want to put the heating on in the winter, or those who find heat helps with backache etc..Inside the box you get a mat that looks like the one in the product images, apart from being mid grey instead of the purple I was looking forward to finding. The mat is 75cm long x 40cm wide, has a detachable cord so it can be washed & an inline control which includes a timer (1hr, 2 hrs, 4hrs or 6hrs) and heat level adjustments as well as an on/off button. The lead is fitted with a 3 pin plug suitable for use in the UK.I got something almost identical last year & it spent the cold months on my computer chair - it was long enough to cover the seat area & my lower back, which kept my core nice & toasty on a low heat setting.I intend to use this for the same purpose this coming winter. It's comfortable to sit on, flexible enough to wrap around you if you want to use it on targeted areas, or soft enough to put down to be a heated surface for feet to rest on, so I find these really handy for all sorts of situations.I would not recommend EVER putting a baby on one of these however - the warmer settings are enough to feel painfully hot to me through my clothes & a baby couldn't tell you they were too hot so please don't do this. This draws between approx 28w & 146w of power. When you first turn it on, it goes to 146 or so to heat up, once it reaches the required temp it turns off & draws no power until the temp drops again, then briefly comes on to get back to the temp you've set before going off again. On setting 1 it spent most of it's time drawing 0 watts, then flicking on for a second to between 28-40w before going off again, but it's a hot day so in the winter I suspect it would be on more than off.On setting 6 it was on more than off, always seemed to hit around 146w & I think would be on most of the time in cold weather. These are really handy to have around & while I'm sad it was grey, it's not the end of the world.
