Spent the better part of a fortnight hunting for a hoverboard that would not moan beneath my 115-kilogram frame. Eventually I landed on this 6.5-inch RCB model and, to my surprise, it rolls along quite happily. The twin motors carry me at just over 12 km/h on level ground, and its claimed 15-degree climbing ability proved genuine on our gently sloping drive, even with an eight-year-old hitching a lift and the dog nosing about for good measure.After sunset the revolving LED lights look fantastic, while the integrated Bluetooth speaker connects in a heartbeat. Push the volume beyond seven out of ten, and the music turns a little crisp and dry, so best to leave it lower if you care about sound quality.Steering is all in the ankles. Give it the subtlest nudge and it glides, ignore that and it sulks. My elder boy sussed it in roughly twenty minutes. The five-year-old, on the other hand, still treats the thing like a miniature rodeo bull. On a full charge we squeeze about fifty minutes of stop-start riding, then it needs two hours back on the mains before it is ready to go again.The solid plastic tyres are fine on smooth tarmac but chatter over rougher pavements, and the wafer-thin instruction leaflet is hardly worth the paper. Even so, the sturdy build, sensible pace, and disco lights that keep the children grinning make it good value for lazy weekend loops around the cul-de-sac.
