1.0 out of 5 stars Time to move on from Creality

At no point since I began my 3D printing journey have I bought a single Creality product and felt that my money, time, or effort was well spent. From the Ender 3 V3 SE printer itself which has caused me nothing but headaches and consistent disappointment, to the CR-Touch sensor which needed to be replaced out of the box due to constant erroring, to the poorly made universal enclosure that ripped at the seams from the moment I put my printer inside, every experience with Creality has been nothing but an adventure in frustration. The Nebula Pad was of course no exception to this rule, but even I was surprised at how badly it performed after just a day and a half. When I read the reviews for the Nebula Pad and saw a number of customers talking about how it had "bricked" their printers, it was obviously a red flag, rivalled only by the presence of the Creality branding which I have become increasingly wary of. However, knowing that I could return the Nebula Pad (and let's applaude Bolo's return policy for a moment), and that the printer could be easily reverted back to stock in the event of an issue, I took the punt and nabbed the contentious add-on for around £70 (thanks to a limited time offer). Now, installation was fairly easy. It does require that you print a new holder (or an adapter for the existing one) to mount the LCD screen, and a mount for the G-Sensor is needed for the initial setup (or whenever you need to make adjustments). And to be fair, I encountered none of the issues that others seem to have experienced during the installation process. There are countless YouTube videos and Reddit threads talking about "upgrade issues" with this pad, from auto-levelling failing to firmware problems, but I seemed to sidestep them all; at least initially. What's more, it did work just fine for a day and a half. The speed of prints increased significantly, being cut by up to 40% in some instances; I was able to control the printer from my phone and PC, as well as print from anywhere thanks to the network connection; and being able to see the printing process from wherever you are thanks to the camera attachment made uncertainty about the progress of prints a thing of the past. However, while this was all great, the problems started quickly too. Firstly, it makes the SD card port redundant and will no longer read files from the card. It's not too much of an issue, but it meant I had to transfer all of my files to the included USB stick, and given my limited space for the setup, having the stick poking out of the screen the entire time meant that I needed to shift things around in my workspace which I wasn't anticipating. Of course I could just send everything over the network now, so this would likely be a short-lived problem that I could adjust to. However, I predominantly use Cura Slicer as I'm not a fan of Creality's software, but Cura can't connect to the Ender over the network. This is more an issue with Cura slicer and it's well documented that it plays poorly with any networked printer that isn't Cura branded, but it meant that I had to use Creality's slicer to print from the network which wasn't ideal. And while I thought that opening G-Code made in Cura in this software wouldn't cause any issues, this certainly wasn't my experience. Properties would change, like bed and nozzle temperature, and one particular issue seemed to be that I suddenly had massively misaligned layers that were less Z-wobble and more Z-fell-over-and-died. Saving the files to the USB stick from Cura (largely) resolved this issue, but defeated the point of the upgrade. It's also worth pointing out that the touchscreen is terrible. I had to break out an old stylus just to navigate the menus, and it's not very responsive. It made me miss the clunky dial on the stock display. Now, had this been the extent of my issues, I likely would have persevered and taken the rough with the smooth. The upgrades were enough to overshadow the units shortcomings, and I figured I just needed to learn how to use it properly. But then, it happened. After starting another print and monitoring it from the comfort of my bed using my phone, I was surprised to see that temperatures were dipping, not rising. I got up to see what the issue was, and I was greeted by a message on the screen that read "System error, try restarting." So I did restart. And again. And again, to no avail. It began to boot loop. There was another option, however, which was to report the fault on Creality Cloud. Taking this option allowed me to access the menu again - albeit in traditional Chinese for some reason - but features were limited. I tried resetting to factory settings which worked initially, and even allowed me to try another print, but the system errored again and began boot looping once more. There was seemingly nothing I could do. I tried reinstalling the firmware, but that didn't work. I tried updating the firmware online, but there was nothing to upgrade to. I looked for guides online, only to be shocked at how many people had experienced issues with the Nebula Pad bricking. Apparently you can access a hidden micro USB port on the board inside the casing of the pad, and using a button configuration, you can enter firmware mode and make changes. But this is a new product. I followed the guide, I installed it as instructed, and in less than two days it was effectively broken. This has been an all too common experience with Creality, so in the end, I just reverted the printer back to stock, reinstalled the old display, and vowed that I would never spend another penny on a Creality product ever again. This really was the last straw, and I'll be upgrading to a Bambu Labs printer at the next possible opportunity. So in short, believe the reviews and do not waste your time, money, or effort on the Nebula Pad, or indeed any Creality product. You will only be disappointed.

Got this for my ender 3 v3se.first off it was really easy to install but you do have to print a holder for the display if using on certain printers, make sure you do that before you install it.firmware upgrade was really simple as always with ender printers.made my prints so much better quality and also a lot quicker.really robustly made and really cheap for what you get.the camera is superb quality and I can now monitor my prints from anywhere.

Bought this to update my creality enders 3s1 but it takes firmware updates which aren't clear and didn't work anyway. Ended up nearly bricking my printer.
