5.0 out of 5 stars Works very well so far
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I bought the 167 modem as my router from talk talk was playing up (wifi dropping out, regular restarts needed), as was my bt whole home mesh wifi (never been very good tbh). Based on other reviews I was a bit nervous that the modem would be complicated to set up as I'm no techie, but it did genuinely work straight out of the box for me. I've got the best internet speeds I've ever had here and it's working very well with Asus xt8 mesh wifi I bought at the same time. Three weeks in so fingers crossed this continues.
4.0 out of 5 stars Modem works out of the box, but initial setup can be a bit finnicky for a beginner
Product works great, I use it as a modem for my Ubiquiti router. Though one star deducted due to poor documentation in general. The IP in the documentation works, but in my instance I had to use Ethernet to connect to it via a laptop and setup a static IP to be able to ping it. It doesn't have a DHCP server running, which is why you have to do it but it could be more clearly communicated in the documentation as part of the steps you need to do.Once I got in though and setup my admin password, things just worked out of the box and didn't need to configure anything at all. Just had to plug my router to the modem and that's all.
5.0 out of 5 stars No frills modem that connects you to the internet - please note: It is not a router
I have a setup where I have a wireless router that requires an external modem. It works as a modem very well: it is simply plug and play. I'm seeing reviews here where people are moaning that they couldn't find it on their wi-fi. Again I repeat: this is not a router. This connects you to the internet, a router is what controls your wi-fi connected devices. Most ISPs provide a router and modem combined, but you have very limited control and customisation over these (hence the reason why I opted for an independent router).
3.0 out of 5 stars ADSL VDSL Modem
This gets very good reviews in the tech posts. I am sure that it is a quality product and well made and will give years of faithful service once configured and up and running. However, I had endless trouble trying to configure it. The Manufacturer's helpline was very helpful and gave helpful instructions. These, though, were quite complicated for a lay person, and more suited to an IT-trained person. Even after I had managed to gain access to the device's control panel and gone through the setup procedure, I was not able to get it to pair with my router and gave up. It is a great shame that, having made a quality product that they have not made it easier for lay people to configure and commission.
5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal!
Getting a VDSL/ADSL midem router is virtually impossible now as every manufacturer seems to think the consumer market is FTTP, where as in practice the majority are FTTC at best and in rural areas it will be this for a long time.My ISP router modem was/is terrible (Vodafone) so I had to change it.I got this in conjunction with a Synology mesh router and WOW!My connection is better, my ping is lower and general reliability is 100% improved. This isn't for amateurs though, some technical ability is required especially accessing the admin area as it is on a different subject and may require direct connection and turning off your main router whilst you set it up.It will arrive in bridge mode so it cannot be used as a dhcp router, you'll need to access the admin page on a different subnet to do this. The router arrives in bridge mode and so is pretty much connect and go when using with a router. This is why I believe there are so many negative reviews as too many don't read the manual and lack the technical skills required to set it up.
5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what I wanted - bridge mode for mesh system
This did exactly what the makers said it would - worked out of the box as a bridge mode modem for a mesh system, using Eero as the WiFi routers. No config required on the unit itself, it just works to pass through the signal from my Plusnet incoming connection (not fttp).
4.0 out of 5 stars Good reliable modem
This appears to be a good reliable modem. After my previous Zyxel started suffering irregular drop-outs and my broadband provider told me there was nothing they could see at their end, a change was needed, so I bought the Vigor 167. It worked straight out of the box (with Plusnet), slow downloads at first but it soon got up to speed, about 55Mb at my location. The only reason for the dropped star is, for someone non-technical like myself, was the poor documentation for logging on to the modem to change the password. I eventually had to resort to YT to find what I was looking for. I had a reason to contact DrayteK UK by email about something else and I found support to be poor, very often just sending form responses to things I'd not even asked about. In the end, again, I found my answer elsewhere.
2.0 out of 5 stars not a straight forward setup
For all the IP changes I was making, I could not access the software set up, however the reset IP would get me straight to the appropriate Web page. 2 hours and getting nowhere was time to call it a day and return it for a TP-Link DECO system that I had all set up in under 10mins..... that's how it should be.
