Purchased all three books. Thought my presentation skills were flagging from lack of audience response post COVID outage. This clearly highlighted where my presentation skill have changed and where I need to brush up. This book is useful for most people both from academia and industry who present at conferences although it is clearly aimed at undergraduates and PhD students.

The most practical book ever written on improving your presentation skills. I like all of Martins Zaumanis’s books, but so far this is my favorite. Just by reading this book, I have started thinking of so many interesting ways to present my work at conferences and seminars. Following, the 5-S presenting pyramid strategy is so helpful to structure your presentation and finally present it in the most effective way. I totally recommend this book to all the students to improve their presentation skills and stand out among their peers.

I am a final year PhD student and conferences have been quite an underwhelming experience for me so far. I never really got any any great feedback about my work, not to mention collaboration opportunities. So I started to look for how to improve my presentation skills. I read a couple of online articles but they all had the same generic advice. Then I found this book. It shows all the things that I had been doing wrong, including designing posters that look like a wall of text and using tiny bullet points in my presentation slides.More importantly, the book shows specific steps for becoming better at presenting. I most liked the idea to involve stories in scientific talks. I never realized it but from my previous conferences I best remember the talks that had some elements of storytelling in them. My next conference is this summer and I will certainly add a story or two. I also appreciate the poster design template that the author provided.

At first I just want to thank you - Dr. Zaumanis - for taking the time to write this book or this book series.This book gives a very structured overview of the most important steps to design and give a extraordinary presentation as well as some additional aspects for a poster presentation! Even though you intuitively know many aspects, the way Dr. Zaumanis structures and describes it in five main steps is didactically amazing.The book is very good to read, even if your English is not perfect (like mine).The additional, downloadable sheets are perfect to remind you of the most important aspects later and put them in your office.The book is also a very entertaining one, so you have fun reading it. The nice figures make it very illustrative and memorable, and it also has the exact right extent to finishing it in a short time!While reading, I really felt understood and could connect to the stories that were told in the book. Therefore, I also think it makes me feel more calm and confident getting on stage the next time, since I know now that everybody is feeling the way I feel and that I CAN GET BETTER, even if I am NOT a natural talented speaker. :-)And the results speak for themselves... I have read it just before the defense of my dissertation and I received soooo much positive feedback (and a "summa cum laude" :-) ).I think it is a shame that some people rate this book with just one or two or three stars without explaining why. Therefore, I would not consider this ratings as reliable.FOR ME THIS IS A CLEAR "MUST HAVE" FOR EVERY SCIENTIST, LECTURER OR EVEN EVERY STUDENT!(... I have already bought the other books of his series and looking forward to reading and enjoying them... and of course seeing the results of their application :-) )

As a lecturer in communication, I know that "Do good research and talk about" it isn't enough. Scientists need to get various audiences to understand the importance and impact of their research findings. Martins shows you why and how to achieve this - and humorously convinces you that you can do it.True, the book won't make you another Steve Jobs or Hans Rosling overnight but it does allow you to become a better version of yourself as a speaker, step by step, from one presentation or poster session to the next. It is based both on findings in communcation psychology as well as Martins' experience as a presenter and listener. Find loads of hands-on principles, techniques and templates, most of which are fairly easy to apply and will make a difference. And find out why Martins' superhero name is Bituman.I enjoyed reading, agreeing, as well as the occasional chuckling, and will use many of Martins' pieces of advice both for myself and my students.
