5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant resource
I got this product for my afterschool club. I have used it 3 times before the summer break. The kids lived it by end of the game I couldn't read the cards as the kids were so close and eager. Brilliant resource.
4.0 out of 5 stars Fairly simple "20 questions" card game (but only 10 questions obviously)
It was quite surprising to see how much this fairly simple game flummoxed my kids. I expected them to find it quite easy, and the rules are reasonably straightforward, and you can pick them up within a couple of goes. But my kids’ minds would go completely blank when they started having to think about mammals they could think of, or how you would ask yes-no questions to differentiate between them. It was rather eye-opening to see how much more work is needed to help them with their (semi-)lateral thinking!None of the animals is especially rare, or unusual, and they are all ones you’d expect a 5-year-old to have heard of. The little bits of trivia and “double or nothing”-style questions require a slightly greater level of general knowledge, but generally any child who’s 9 or 10 years old probably knows everything that these cards could teach. One important point to note is that “2-6 players” isn’t strictly true. The game requires two teams, no more no less, regardless of the size of the team. It could be 100 players, 50 on each team, if you really wanted (but you don’t). But if you have 3 players, then it has to be a team of 2 and a team of 1- you can’t have three teams of one. It wouldn’t really take too much twisting or enhancing of the rules to turn it into a three-team game, if the other two teams took it in turns to question or guess, but sticking strictly to the instructions on the card, it’s a two-team game. This is potentially awkward when there’s one grown-up and two kids who want to play against each other rather than together. The presentation of the guessing game is straightforward. The box is unnecessarily oversized to make it look more substantial than it really is, which feels like a bit of a cheat when the game could just as easily have been sold in a pack of cards, Top Trumps-style.The weakest point about the presentation is that the cards are slightly see-through! When holding up a card for the other team to guess, in the right light, you can see through the card to the answer printed in large letters on the other side. Make sure you’re holding the card behind your hand if you don’t want the other team to ‘guess’ it straight off! It’s a bit overpriced and over-packaged for what is essentially a simple card game for a 5-to-9-years sort of range, but it is quite fun.
