Breakfast in a Can
I recently tried the Mountain House Scrambled Eggs with Bacon while prepping for a weekend camping trip, and it was a delightful surprise! When it comes to breakfast, I usually want something quick and filling, and this certainly delivered. The #10 can makes it super convenient for both camping and emergency food storage. Just add hot water, wait a few minutes, and you've got a hearty breakfast ready to go. The eggs rehydrated nicely, and the bacon bits added a nice touch of flavor and texture. It felt like a real breakfast rather than just another freeze-dried meal.Enjoying this by the campfire while watching the sunrise was a fantastic way to start my day. It not only satisfied my hunger but also gave me the energy boost I needed for a day of hiking. I’ll definitely keep this on hand for future trips!
Tasty!
Mountain House is our favorite, by far, prepared foods seller. Never any TVP or fillers. They don't use wads of salt and/or citric acid as cheap "flavor". No preservatives or any other crud.Eggs are a bit tricky to freeze. They do have a slight reaction to it in that they're not quite as fluffy as a fresh egg would be. I actually prefer that. I never add milk or such to my scrambled eggs because I don't like puffy. If you do, buy a pouch size of this first and try it. Most of their meals can be found in pouch size for backpacking, BOBs, that sort of thing. As well as being a prepper in general, we live in the mountains. Being snowed in, often w/o power, is fairly normal and this is part of our preparation for it. They have a large range of meals, a decent range of sides and breakfasts, and you can't beat a 30+ yr shelf life.Don't forget to use the Smile.Bolo.com address - It's an Bolo program where many everyday things you buy will generate a small donation from Bolo to the charity of your choice at no cost to you. Not just edible, actually really good
Took these camping in Wyoming and used them to make breakfast burritos. They were amazing and everyone in our group of 8 loved them. They were a real hit!
Needs Seasoning
Lost a star for being bland, the bacon provides all the flavor, but easily can be pushed to good. Before you dump in the hot water add salt at the very least so it cooks with the salt. Pepper and other spices to taste are also a good idea. A little butter if you've got it. MSG FTW. Sides like toast help a lot too. If you don't have anything to give it some flavor it is still perfectly edible just not delightful. The water needs to be boiling hot or you'll not get complete reconstituted eggs and they'll have crunchy bits in the middle. Don't bother to pour the water into a measuring cup as you'll loose too much heat in the transfer. Just eyeball it on the high side. You pour off the excess anyway so no big deal if you add too much. I'd say the water given in the instructions is the minimum.Unlike most "serving sizes" claimed by many companies the servings are about right. It's measured out at a cup per serving and that's before you add water. It's a decent size meal in itself and if you can add a beverage and toast or an acorn mash pancake to the meal you'll be well fed. You could easily get by with a half a cup for a meal without stomach grumbling if you aren't burning that many calories, and then you can double the servings per can.
Good stuff
Purchased this for a recent hunting trip, taste was good, texture was good, and it was easy to make.I would advise a little "trial and error" use prior to any need to ensure you can get the mixture to the consistency YOU like.Following the instructions gets you close, we needed to add a little more water as the initial mixture was slightly 'pasty', but edible.I would recommend it for field use or emergency needs.
