5.0 out of 5 stars Beware of using it with magic eye
This unit was bought so as to send a hdmi signal from a sky box to the rest of the TVs located in the house via the pre installed co-ax cable. This it did superbly, the main tv had its source via the hdmi loop thru which was just as if it came straight from the sky box. The rest of the TVs, received their signal from the unit via a dc bypass distribution amp. The picture quality on the sets was 90% of the original hdmi signal, perhaps even higher but 100% more than the composite analogue signal that would come via the rf output on the sky box. So to the only issue and it may hurt or annoy some. Is the fact that if you introduce the tv magic eye to control the sky box from the other sets, you then will experience a slight delay in the sky box responding to the actions of the remote. How much, well a second say, but can annoy some that do t want to wait on the sky box administering your remote commands. I tested this with an experiment that utilised the rf2 output and the output from our modulator and the conclusion was the rf2 output worked as if I was in the same room as the sky box but there was a delay albeit a second or so from requesting the modulator output to change channel etc. so for picture quality it’s superb, instructions minimal, but it’s just a modulator so anyone looking down this route will be have a reasonable understanding of what they are trying to achieve and how. The fact that electronics brings this slight delay in can’t be scored against the unit as this is just physics and how electronic components behave in a circuit. Ide still buy it everyday of the week as the picture quality is excellent
5.0 out of 5 stars Great product to distribute TV around the home
I reluctantly upgraded to sky q because of the very limited connections on the back of the sky q box compared to the sky hd box. No antenna in or out, no 9v rf out and only 1 hdmi. I already had sky distributed through the house because of the antenna out but with the sky q box this would now be impossible. Searched the market for something that would work and found this product.... AMAZING!! I tried it out before going with the sky q box just in case and I managed to get the exact same set up as before... Terrestrial TV AND hdmi all around the house. The product still allows you to send standard terrestrial TV around the house but with the hdmi also transmitted not only directly to your main TV but also sends the signal through your normal aerial cables to other tvs around the home. A little tricky to set up so you would need some general understanding of how these units work. The instructions were a bit basic but it came with a contact email and tel number if you needed it. I managed quite easily after a couple of YouTube videos. Now we have satellite around the home, still have terrestrial TV AND the quality of normal TV picture is even better than before thanks to the signal amplifier. Excellent quality, value for money and will pay for itself by saving money on multiroom.
4.0 out of 5 stars Overall Very Pleased
I've used a few HDMI modulators and wanted to replace my Technomate model with one that supported the "magic eye" feature. I got rid of sky ages ago but the coax distribution is still in place, and all the splitter-amplifiers feature IR pass-though. My modulator is fed via the HDMI from my AV receiver, which also acts as an HDMI switch. To my pleasant surprise the supplied magic eye and IR emitter work fine with my freeview STB, Roku, Xbox One X and the AV receiver. I invested in a 4-way IR emitter cable to replace the supplied single-head cable and all 4 devices can now be controlled remotely. Another nice surprise, all my old Sky magic-eyes work with the emitter and the on-Sky devices, so I now have control in all rooms at no extra cost using the existing cabling and magic eyes. Other nice features include a separate RF-out for the TV local to the modulator, HDMI pass-through and a switchable 9V supply if your distribution isn't already powered. The picture quality is very good, the remote lag is maybe 500ms - consistent with most of these devices, and the menu features are all accessible from the physical controls (unlike the Edision Xtend for example). My only reason for dropping a star is that the video bit rate is capped at 12Mb/s, whereas the Technomate and Edision are 18. Overall though a very nice bit of kit - the best of this type of device I have used so far.
5.0 out of 5 stars Solves the sky multi room issue.
Like many others I had my Sky+ HD distributed around the house from the RF2 output. With the promise of a SkyQ upgrade I needed to do something. This box is the answer. The HDMI link between your sky box and TV. It takes an aerial feed in and then does its magic by merging your sky output with the normal TV. Sky is now on digital channel 800 around my house in glorious HD.As others have said, the magic eye remoteis “laggy” but useable with patience.Buy some coax to F type adapters and an hdmi lead for installation.Don’t forget to retune all your TVs when you’ve set up the box. I had to do some of my TVs twice and set the picture mode to “auto” to get the right aspect ratio. Now ready for a painless sky q upgrade.
5.0 out of 5 stars Digital Sky in Every Room !
Manufacturers are now starting to drop the analogue tuner capability on their TVs. A real problem if you have a wired, splitter, TV network system to every room in the house as I do !Fitting this box and setting up was quick and simple and where I once had a slightly grainy analogue signal from my Sky Box, I now have clear digital pictures on all sets.Well worth the upgrade !PLEASE NOTE : This unit only outputs DVB-T2 format encoding. If any of your TVs are DVB-T compliant only, then it will not work with these sets.
1.0 out of 5 stars TRIAX MOD130T Digital Modulator
Disappointed with total lack of good documentation with no example's of typical UK settings,1.Documentation was not new had been used by someone else as there was additional hand writing on the setup sheet.2. No access to TRIAX web site for any issues as this was for Distributors only .3. Very difficult to setup with little or no support available.4. Still having issues with Video and sound out of synch but unable to find any information on the Web.
Not entirely suitable for Australian DVBT standards ( I think)
This units default settings appear to be for the UK market and I suspect that its designed for EU DVB-T standards. After adjusting the "settable" RF parameters to AU standards that I took from the ACMA website ( the AU governing body of the radio spectrum here) I did get it to work at first as a single RF source to One TV. however. once connected to the House antenna I found that the pass through does not work on all channels. I seem to lose all SBS, stations, All Digital Radio channels and some channel 7,9 and 10 streams ( but not all ) and it's not HD vs SD. There might be a way to get it to work with a FW upgrade or I may have one setting out but I ended up just buying an external Muxer and used it to mix the TV antenna signal with the output of this unit and Bingo, She works fine. so not a total loss but I could have bought a cheaper simpler unit in the end and saved money. The muxer I used was one I had lying around and is called a Graetz M1-4/5FV "Diplexer. sounds like it un duplexes by the name but it in fact is a mixer. This model is actually not the perfect product for this issue ( it mixes Band 1-4 with Band 5 ) most TV stations ( ensembles ) in my area are in Band 5 so I used the Band 1-4 input of the Muxer for the RF output from the Triax. Interestingly the Band 5 input is passing through the lower bands but I would imagine there is a Pure Muxer of all bands in their range if you need it.
