Description:
Originally released in 1979, this seminal record explores themes of teenage boredom and sectarian violence with an underlying insight into Northern Irish life during the peak of the tensions. Their punk rock aesthetic is authentic, with raw lyricism and harsh instrumentation. Containing the anthemic track 'Alternative Ulster', Stiff Little Fingers promote the 'grab it and change it' narrative.

Reviewed November 2024:As a far who's seem them live many times, I'm going to say it's brilliant musically. This pressing is fine sonically. I've 2 record players in 2 different rooms, and it sounds great on both, and with less pops and crackles that my well played original version.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great price
Very good price great album, not one mark on it excellent delivery
5.0 out of 5 stars So good some b*!%^ nicked my original
What can I say, if you are a sad old sod like me, remastering your vinyl collection and it turns out that some vile git nicked this when you were at uni you would be annoyed too. You would also like a replacement as it is cheaper in the mid-life crisis stakes than a Harley (the bike, not Steve - he comes at about the same price). It has a history as the first independent album to hit the top 20 and is a rare example of a true Punk record that had any commercial success. so you might want to give it a try if punk floats your boat, as having this on a tee-shirt may well be several degrees cooler than the overdone Ramones logos; on the other hand if you are into Snoop, Fiddy or anyone called dangerous you may be best giving this a miss as it contains guitar sounds (and explicit content-each generation thinks they invented this in their music, but they are all wrong).

5.0 out of 5 stars The original and the best
This has been one of my favourite albums since it was released in 1979 (when I must confess I was 15). I bought it then, have now updated it to CD and still love it as much as ever. I saw SLF half a dozen times between 1979 and 1982 (don't get me started on a trip down memory lane please!), and their music just oozes rawness from every pore. Jake Burns' voice is so amazingly distinctive. This album is their first and for me remains their best - it is just so powerful and sounds just as good today as it was in 1979. I am so glad to see that so many new fans have come to SLF in the last few years and the comparisons to Green Day are apt. So many bands today are endebted to SLF. Jake and the boys - we salute you!
5.0 out of 5 stars If Hieniken made punk albums.............
If you want to revisit the late 70's, or get your head round your dads music, there are three albums to buy. The Clash by The Clash, Never Mind The Bollocks by The Sex Pistols and SLF's Inflammable Material. For me, personally, I put the best one last, not a bad track on this album, others would say the same about The Clash and The Bollocks albums, its all down to personal taste, but I think most who lived through that era would agree with me on the three "essentials" I've listed. So, go on, buy all three and decide for yourself, you will have many hours of classic punk before you can decide, I still can't 30years later but SLF just pip the others for me.
