Just finished transferring about 25 cassette tapes to MP3 via GarageBand on my Mac. Very easy setup - plug and play. Highly recommended..

5.0 out of 5 stars The DIGITNOW! Audio capture card is good!

    A.C. · 12 August 2023

This review is for the DIGITNOW! Audio capture card. This is a good product that I have used to capture audio from devices that have a 3.5mm headphone jack, from my AUGUST DAB radio, my ancient but still good Sony CD Radio Casette-Corder CD-S05 and my Samsung Android tablet. It behaves like a USB microphone.I have captured and recorded onto a Windows 11 pc and a Raspberry Pi both running Audacity. The quality of the audio you get depends on the quality of the original, obviously, but also setting the output volume (and other) levels. I have used trial and error and got the results I and my not-very-good ears are satisfied with.As I mentioned, I am using Audacity to capture the audio, use the noise reduction facilities and then export as .mp3 files. The version of Audacity supplied with the capture card is very old but the latest version is freely available. There are many good tutorials available. The instructions supplied in the little booklet do not quite match the necessaryconfiguration and requires a little exploration of the EDIT->Preferences menu.

4.0 out of 5 stars Promising but installing on a MacBook isn’t intuitive

    N. · 20 January 2022

I have a modern MacBook so the first requirement is to get a USB-C adapter.Having done that, there was no way of telling whether the device had been accepted by the MacBook , or whether it wasn’t necessary to install it as such, which in the end it wasn’t.The manual isn’t entirely clear on using Mac OS but seems better for Windows where an installation disc is supplied. The next issue was to install Audacity from the website, as there doesn’t seem to be an app.The installation as such was straightforward but it took some time, and several attempts to record before I was asked whether I wanted to allow use of the USB Microphone. When this finally happened, I tried a recording from a classical cassette played on a Sony Walkman, which I recorded using the 3.5mm cable, without making any adjustments to the recording level or using any of the other tweaks available with the software. The sound was excellent and could probably be improved by playing around with the software.I shall now transfer some of my cassettes to the MacBook, using my Aiwa cassette deck, which should produce even better results, and thence to my iPhone, and perhaps try a few vinyl LPs as well, and update this review at that time. However, at this stage, the device seems promising, once you figure out how to launch the software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product, works okay

    R. · 17 January 2025

As described and arrived on, well packed and pretty easy to connect, though you may need an RCA splitter/two way switch, if you don't want to be fiddling around with the turntable wiring over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to Install and configure and eventually recorded Vinyl to MP3

    R. · 20 September 2022

The installation on Windows and Configuration was very simple - plug and play. Install Software no worries.Plugged in the Red/White Female cables to a Male ones out of the Record System all simple. Couldn't work out what to do wit the 3.5mm jack, but eventually left it dangling.Once I had worked out that the Phono Deck needs to go through the Amplifier (separate), I plugged the Red/White Male socket into the Back of the Amp. My Technics Amp (37 years old) Has Video/Aux which I tried to use to no avail, but eventually i added it to the Tape REC OUT setting, set my Amp to Phono and hey presto it works.. and it works like a dream. The quality is very good, and the MP3 file is not huge and easily imports to iTunes.Overall, very happy with this product. Cheap, Simple (ish) to configure and now I am ready for hours and hours of copying Vinyl to MP3 to ITunes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tough to get it to work, customer support isn't getting in touch

    A.C. · 18 November 2022

Seeing the reviews, I was confident of being able to plug and play with this. Not so. I run MacOS Big Sur, so the instructions in the little manual for this item don't work. It says go to Apple logo/ About this Mac/ More info / Hardware /USB, but my options do not include 'more info' or 'hardware'. I wrote customer support but there was no response, ever.My tape deck was working fine but the device was not transferring the sound into Audacity. Zero customer support. After many hours and downloading different third-party apps, I finally got this to work through audacity. It works great once you figure out how to get it operating on your system, but that can be extremely difficult to do.Maybe you will be lucky and it will “plug and play“ for you, but if your experience is like mine, it will be a very long and frustrating process to get it up and running.
