5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended
If your looking for a good quality camping/ outdoor lamp, would recommend these, you can get cheeper ones, but you will probably end up getting this any way, much better. Give out a good light. Strong and durable design. Runs on parafin nice, I prefer a good quality lamp oil. Bit less smelly.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice light.
It looks nice. Not much light but creates the atmosphere.Would have been even better if it was a bit heavier.
5.0 out of 5 stars It’s well worth the extra money
Superior quality, well engineered, good weight, excellent light
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent....but
This is the third lantern I have purchased, they are excellent. I did sent one back as it was damaged. Bent and scratched around the lower mechanism. The lanterns are painted and the globe arm can come fused to the body. A quality control issue that can let the side down. Please Fuerhand make a cover in a darker colour.
4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome traditional style oil lamp, but...
Always wanted a Feuerhand lantern, so finally bought one. I spent a long time debating it, but was finally persuaded by the reviews. It does exactly what it's designed to do, and it does it incredibly well. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of light that this lamp produces with a relatively small flame in pitch darkness. The unit is sturdy, should put up with a few bumps and scrapes on camping/fishing trips, and appears to be very reliable in service. There are also a whole range of spares available, but if you want a good stock of spares, my advice is to buy another lantern. This will be far cheaper! So, why only four stars, not five?Well, there are a few points to note here:After unboxing the lantern, I set it up and prepped it for a test burn. When it came to lighting the wick, I pushed the lever down to raise the globe, and the paint on the lever came straight off at the point of contact with the ventilation tube. Now I guessed that these lanterns would be painted in some way, but I really expected it to be much harder-wearing than that. So while the overall visual quality of the painted finish is fantastic, if you're worried about scratches and scrapes, buy the standard unpainted tin version.During use, I also noticed that fuel appeared to be seeping through the joints between the fuel tank and the ventilation tubes, and around the fuel filler neck. Only seeping though, not dripping. Not even enough to form a "bead" around the joints. As far as I know, these are not sealed units, so i'm not sure if that's normal or not. Perhaps I put a little too much fuel in to start with. Who knows. Either way, it's not enough to say that the lantern leaks, because it doesn't. The seepage was so small, that it was only really clarified by blotting some tissue paper on these areas and noticing the absorbency of the fuel into it. If I hadn't looked closely at these areas, I wouldn't have noticed. Not a problem for me, as I don't intend to be carrying the lantern around while it's burning, but it may be a deciding factor for someone else.Lastly, once the flame had extinguished itself, I had one hell of a job trying to raise the globe again. The more I pushed on the lever, the more it was putting pressure on the ventilation tubes instead of lifting the globe. Trying to release the globe by pulling the chimney upwards was also a challenge. It seems that usage of the lantern causes the globe and chimney sections to somehow temporarily fuse together, jamming the chimney in the closed position in the process. I found the only way to overcome this after a burn is to use brute force to pull the chimney up to separate it from the globe, then release it again. The globe raises on the lever without problems after this. It seems rather fiddly at first, but once you get the hang of it, it shouldn't pose any lasting problems. Again, i suspect this is only a problem on the painted units, although I can't be sure. The paint likely fouls a moving part and causes issues. At least it's easy to deal with once you're aware of the problem. All in all, a brilliant, traditional oil lamp which far outperforms other similar models i've seen. It's gonna be my trusty nighttime companion for a long time to come.
5.0 out of 5 stars As expected 👏
Definitely need smokeless odourless oil.but also its perfect and can be coped with. Actually warms rooms seems pretty safe .Great quality. Awsome powder coating.
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Just amazing lantern. Works perfect. Love it
3.0 out of 5 stars Great lamp, just don't fill it all the way!
I bought this lamp to bring a bit of old world atmosphere to our family camping trips, and it does that fantastically. We love the lamp, but I am giving it only 3 stars because it leaks the oil around where the vertical arms join the base. Be warned, do not fill it more than half way or it will leak. I filled it right up and left it on a tiny slope in the tent and it leaked all over the entrance carpet. Obviously you can't tip a lamp like this over, or the oil will run out the wick opening, so make sure you travel with it empty, but I was disappointed that the way the arms attached to the oil well means they create holes in the well, thus it leaks if you really fill it up. There is an easy fix of course, just keep it half full! It still burns for 8-10 hours at least on half a tank of oil.Having said all that, I am still getting another one! The rest of the lamp is very well made, the wick control works very well, the glass is high quality, and it has a lifting mechanism to light and snuff the flame. I think in 12-16 hours of burning we never had to turn the wick up, meaning it is really burning efficiently, being the fuel rather than the wick. We also had no problem with soot, even when turned up. I was very pleasantly surprised at how bright it can get--it easily lights our camp and is a much nicer light than the LED lamps available. I find most camping LEDs way too cold a light, almost blue, so this is much better. Being a good old flame, its a nice warm light. As long as you don't over fill it, and take care to travel with it empty, its a great piece of kit that just has more charm that any electric light!
Perfetta!
