Basically push the pins in for when you want it working, and pull them towards you to switch off. Always turn the dial clockwise. The only issue is setting the actual time. DamianR says the little pointer is obvious, and at the 1700 mark in the photograph, that's about 1.30 on a standard clock face. It isn’t obvious, took me a few minutes even with his instructions. The photo you should be looking at is the fifth one, the close up from an oblique angle. The little pointer isn’t on the body of the timer, it is on the side of the face with the three pin plug holes, yep, exactly where shown in the photo, provided you know you shouldn’t be looking at the square body of the beast but at its short stocky neck where the plug goes in. Seems to be working fine. Only time will tell, ha ha! Thanks DamianR!

I have been using this item for some weeks now and contrary to some comments I found it pretty easy to set up and use. However some segments stopped working, which means my device is not switch on when I'd like it to.

I’ve bought these a couple of times and they work well to begin with and then after six months or so, the timer dial jams up. The blue dial can’t be moved or adjusted, which means the unit needs to be disposed of.
