  • 'Nice ride -- How fast does it stop?' This question is asked far more often of sport cars than road bikes, which really doesn't make sense to us. After all, in the world of human-powered road racing, braking power and feel is every bit as critical. The simple story of SwissStop's new FlashPro Blue Extreme Performance (BXP) Brake Pads for alloy surfaces is that they deliver more power with less required lever force, in both wet and dry conditions. But, we'd be remiss as to not expound further. You may be familiar with SwissStop's Green High Performance II (GHP II) pads, respected for their superior combination of power, modulation, durability, and value. Assuredly, SwissStop could have rested on the reputation of the GHP II compound, but that wouldn't be consistent with its tradition of innovation. SwissStop's parent company, Rex Articoli, is a specialist in technical rubber compounds. And in 2010, it invested in new machinery and materials in order to further develop and refine the BXP compound for alloy surfaces. The goal was simple: Provide greater power and modulation, while maintaining durability and limiting brake squeal. Now, a few years later, the proof is in the testing. To go from 60 to 0 km/h in dry conditions, BXP Pads required only 35 meters. That's eight fewer than GHP II Pads, and much fewer than the competition. When 180 Newtons (N) of force were exerted on the brake lever, BXP Pads produced 800N of braking force -- a 200N improvement over GHP II. Additionally, the response of BXP is more linear, meaning that there's no sudden grabbing. From pad engagement to wheel lockout, the harder you squeeze, the more you slow. The SwissStop FlashPro BXP Brake Pads come in a complete set of four pads, and are designed to be used with Shimano and SRAM brakes. For Campagnolo, choose the RacePro BXP Pads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely must have replacement to standard Shimano pads

They come with new replacement bolts.Bottom Line - I have tried 2 more brands other than Shimano standard pads and so far SwissStop pads are the best perfoming. I'd highly recomend if not for general use but for stopping power in wet conditions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Replacement pads for my Brompton

    A.J. · 21 August 2024

The Brompton pads are made by SwissStop, but are more expensive. These are easy to fit and come with replacement screws. Braking is smooth, progressive, quiet and effective. Perfect.

Great stopping power on allow rims in the wet and on a par with disc brakes in the dry, well worth the upgrade

4.0 out of 5 stars Different, but worth the money?

    L.C. · 19 June 2020

I’ve been using these for over 1000km in the hilly terrain of the Peak District. I upgraded from the standard pads that came on my bike. Wear on the pads is minimal so far, and I’ve noticed that they seem to be kinder on the rims, with less grooves from grit getting embedded in the pads. These brakes felt noticeably different when I put them on the bike at first, and didn’t require much in the way of bedding in. I’ve got them set up flat to the rim without toe-in and they don’t make any noise at all. I think that the braking performance is generally better than the stock pads although not an enlightening experience, you’ll not be shooting over the handlebars accidentally. My experience is that the compound gives you faster braking from high speed, but you’ll have to apply a bit more pressure to get slowed down fully to stop at a junction. I think this comes down to the softer compound these pads use.Value for money is something people seem to mention a lot in the comments, for me it’s not a huge deal spending more when the pads should only need replacing maybe once a year. If you’re tight for cash, you’re probably not losing out hugely in performance by going with middle of the road priced pads, though. Worth mentioning that the cost of a new rim is going to be significantly more than the price of pads however, and these do seem to be kinder on the rims than previous pads.Overall I’d say that these are solid pads and I would buy them again. Although they’re not exceptionally better than run of the mill pads, they’re definitely different. Worth giving a go to see which you prefer considering the realatively low price. I would wait until you've worn out whatever pads you've got equipped already though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent stopping power

    P.K. · 18 October 2019

These pads are fantastic, offering great stopping power in dry and wet. They were a tight fit in my existing Fibrex breaks but once in they do a great job. Worth paying a bit more for high quality breaks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as expected

I replaced my wheels a short while back and my previous pair of shoes were not that great but were also close to being replaced. I was told that that these are great brake pads compared to the standard sets you can buy but comes at a little premium in price. I was not to bothered paying the extra as I like my brakes to be responsive. Frankly not impressed. Been out a few times now and there is no difference to my almost worn previous pair. Personally I feel standard pads are just as effective.
