Checking and maintaining the fluid should be done as guided by the manufactures specification.
The Comma ASW Automatic Transmission Fluid is a semi-synthetic automatic transmission fluid which comes in a 1 litre bottle. The fluid itself has been approved for use in Aisin-Warner automatic transmissions.

This is used in my wifes Nissan automatic and does the job just as well. It is half the price of the Nissan oil.

I bought this for an obscure Japanese auto-box, for which I can't find the correct fluid. I'd been using multi-vehicle ATF, but thought it perhaps needed something a bit more tailored. After some digging-around I discovered that a lot of the fluids designed for Aisin-Warner boxes tended to also meet requirements that were similar to those of my transmission. I thought I'd give this a go and it's certainly smoothed shifting, and also improved lurch and judder.
