Description:
Each triple pack of GlucoGel consists out of 3x25g tubes of GlucoGel containing 10g of carbohydrates each, mainly in the form of dextrose (glucose). If you have diabetes it is always best to check your blood glucose before eating Glucogel to confirm that your blood glucose is low and that you need extra carbohydrates. NICE guidelines state that when 10-20g of carbohydrates are administered, blood glucose levels should increase in 5-15 minutes. Glucogel can be administered through a PEG tube, however you would not expect as quick absorption as you would through the buccal route (mouth/oral administration). It would be expected to increase blood glucose but not as quickly or as dramatically. Glucogel has never been tested on animals. Glucogel is Gluten, Dairy, Lactose, Wheat and Fat free.

I thought this product was rather expensive for what it was, but at the end of the day, you can't put a price on your health. My husband is diabetic, and occasionally suffers from a "wobbly" fit, which means he starts to feel dizzy and a bit weak. This is an indication that his blood sugars are running low, and he needs to take a sugar-rich product such as a jam sandwich or a chocolate bar, to bring the levels up again. These sachets of gel glucose are ideal; they're simple to open, very easy to swallow, and they work very quickly. And much better for him than a bar of chocolate!

Glucogel is very efficient for reversing hypos in type 1 diabetics. It's easy to carry around in a pocket or handbag and we wouldn't like to be without it. I've seen reviews with complaints about short use by dates on this item and I can sympathise with that as a previous pack I ordered did only have a few weeks to run. However I was very pleased to find that this latest pack has a full twelve months before expiry which is a great improvement. So it seems that you take a chance on what is in stock at the time as is the case with anything with a best before date. Expensive? Well it's certainly not cheap but if you try to buy the same product in a high street chemist you may find, as I did, that it is a third more expensive to buy that way.
