5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality litlle axe, ideal for chopping wood for the fire pit
Nice little axe that is easy to use and arrives reasonably sharp. Ideal for cutting firewood for my fire pit.
4.0 out of 5 stars Well made, well balanced tool
My purchase was of the smallest option weighing-in at 1.25lb (~0.5kg) and I bought this hatchet to chop away a small tree stump that was in a confined space where a larger axe would not do.Out of the package, the axe head has a rubber protective strip along the cutting edge. Removing this reveals an edge that is pre-shaped and adequately sharp *but* a little time spent honing the edge will pay dividends. Without teaching to suck eggs, remember that sharpening a blade properly is a skill that does not come easily to everyone and badly sharpened blades will end up more blunt than they were at the start of the process! The axe appears well made and the handle is nicely shaped - the only thing that I would say is that it looks to me as if the blade is permanently attached to the handle and could not be replaced if needed. In use, the axe is well balanced and easily hefty enough for chopping firewood or splitting kindling etc. It was perfect for the use I had in mind and with a little elbow grease, the stump was soon reduced to slightly below ground level (job done)! The blade remained sharp throughout and appears to be made from good quality steel - even a couple of accidental bashes on a surrounding concrete post did little damage other than to put tiny nicks in the blade which was a relief. I put an edge back on the blade after the impact with the concrete but aside from this (expected) maintenance the tool performed well.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quality and handling
This item is Excellent, good value for money, good weight, but strong and easy to use, plus very sharp.
5.0 out of 5 stars Handy well balanced tool.
I was offered a good discount on this axe so it sealed the deal over another I was viewing, I am pleased with my choice as the axe feels strong and well balanced, has a slim rubber edge cover for protection, edge has a well defined grind that is uniform on each side though a bit rough to touch it is sharp enough for most jobs a 1 1/4 lb axe would be used for ie camp use small splitting of tinder for fire wood. It has a solid feel to the handle with a non slip section for a secure grip > All in a sturdy tool from a recognized maker at a very good price and an easy job to finish the edge to a razor edge, would recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars Hand axe
Good size and weight, comfortable to use, edge cover is a good idea to keep the blade in good condition
3.0 out of 5 stars Great axe but
Seems to be a great axe, but the blade was damaged, width two big chunks out when it was opened, despite it having a protective rubber shield ( which was split). If I didn’t need to put it to immediate use I would return, as it is I will have to grind the blade, which is very disappointing for a brand new axe!
4.0 out of 5 stars Better than most, still suffers dulling after time
This was bought to replace one that bent out of shape. Trouble is, splitting wood dulls the blades. Sharpening isn't easy. It does work well but you need to have a way to sharpen them or it will not last. On a plus, no corrosion, hasn't deformed and a great handle for holding. Much better than other similarly priced hatchets. Overall, I'd give 4 stars, losing the star for its full blade. But better than most.
