This excellent kit has built on that excitement and has sustained her interest for considerable periods of time. It comes in a fairly substantial box which is well designed and has a plastic inner tray with sections to store all the components. What makes this different to other electronics toys is the way the pieces connect - they are easy to join through "press studs" and there is a clear plastic base on which to place your creation as you build (although the plastic base isn't actually big enough for the biggest circuits. There are well over 100 different circuits to build, including a fan, (which can also be made to fly), a burglar alarm, several varieties of radio, doorbells, and a lie detector so plenty to be going on with! We haven't done them all yet, but so far, every single one has worked really well. We have blown quite a few fuses through user error (although the users are now more careful so it doesn't happen as often!), but they are easy enough to replace so it isn't a major problem. The thorough instruction manual does explain what each component is although it is possible to build the circuits just using the numbers and colours of the various parts. This is positive because you can just get on and build without knowing what a "capacitor" is or does for example, but on the other hand, you may not necessarily be learning as much as you could be because you don't actually need any knowledge to build the circuits other than just the instructions. I guess that really means that this kit can be what you make it.This isn't the cheapest electronics kit on the market but of the several we've already bought, this is easily the best. It is sturdy and will provide hours of fun to children over about the age of 6 with some adult assistance, and with increasing independence the older the child gets.A really recommended buy, and if your child has expressed an interest in electronics, I wouldn't hesitate to get them this. It is definitely worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational? Yes. In electronics? No.

I bought this technological kit as a possible means of distracting my 10-year-old grandson away from his long-time addiction to video games. There was the possibility that this introduction to electronics would grow into a longer-term hobby with real electronic components. It’s too early to say if this will happen but I can report that this kit was an immediate success. I think the designers of the kit have done an excellent job of persuading young minds that they can be an “electronics genius” by making the simple chunky pieces plug together easily to achieve working electronic gadgets after only 15 to 20 minutes of effort. The excellent book of instructions is so simple to follow. Start at the first VERY simple project and work through the book to more complex (but still simple to make) projects …. that’s the idea that the designers had. However, I guarantee that your youngster will immediately flip to the middle of the book and insist on making a lie detector or burglar alarm. That’s fine, because with your help, the REAL educational element of this kit is learning to follow the very clear circuit plans. Every part is colour coded, shape coded, symbol coded and number coded, so even if your child is dyslexic or colour-blind they should still be able to achieve “electronics genius” status just by copying the circuit picture. What parent will not be bowled over when their little genius appears and says “listen to this” and proceeds to tune into Radio 1 with his kit of electronic Lego? This kit is truly rewarding at all sorts of levels for both young and old alike, but be warned, your knowledge of electronics after completing all the projects will still be zero. It is a fantastic and stimulating introduction to the world of electronics without ever teaching you anything about electronics. This was brought home to me when I recently visited my grandson and he proudly involved me in building an FM radio. At one stage he asked me to hand him the 100 headphone part.. Puzzled, I asked which part did he mean? When he picked the part he had spoken of and it was a 100-ohm resistor (ohms being the unit of resistance) that was marked with is technically correct symbol 100 W.You can preview all the project circuit diagrams and kit contents by going to the John Adams website and viewing the downloadable pdf files. See for yourself just how beautifully simple and clear they are.If my grandson does want to start learning about real electronics then this kit will also serve as an elegantly simple teaching vehicle for understanding how circuits and basic electronic components work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy and works well

I give this Electronics experiment kit 5 stars yet it deserves 4.5 stars. My reason for the -10% will be explained towards the end of this review. The build and material quality are really good. The modules have obviously a lot more going in inside them and make for a simplified build, targeted at the age group this is intended for, the individual resistors and capacitors are sufficient to understand the importance of having the correct type and value of device in the correct location of the circuit. The instruction diagrams and instructions are very easy to follow. My grandson of 7 years old, (with learning difficulties) was able to follow the instructions with a little help from his 11 year old sister. Who by the way enjoyed putting some projects together. Our first couple of projects, I intentionally made a few mistakes (missing links, incorrect device or value) to show the importance of following the assembly diagrams properly and to fault find, which in itself was more fun and rewarding than getting it right first time.My -10% is for the lack of basic circuit theory, but could that be just too much for this level of kit?Would I buy this kit again – YES without a doubt.

    Fantastic!

At the very least, it is like a puzzle. It also teaches them "testing" (the circuit does not work? go back and check that everything is like in the diagram). It is also a confidence-building toy (the child can do build a circuit and then see the result, which is very satisfying). You can make all sorts of amazing things: fan, radio, burglar alarm, sound recorder, etc. Last week she had the idea of replacing the snap-on wires with real wires, and then she built her own little circuit! A truly fantastic toy!

    Interesante, educativo y divertido
