5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Casterman.
Bravo to the Casterman publishers for releasing this admittedly controversial volume, and doing it in a style that matches Farshore's volumes.I bought Farshore's paperback box set but was disappointed to find Tintin in the Congo omitted despite its claims of being a complete set so returned it and bought this and Farshore's hardback volumes instead.Other than the logo on the spine and a differently formatted back cover it matches perfectly with the rest.Despite not having a slipcase I think I prefer having lose hardbacks as they remind me of the volumes I read as a child from the library! The author has apologised for the content but sadly some people still judge the book from a smug modern perspective nearly a century after it was published in 1931.
5.0 out of 5 stars A very good and high-quality book
I ordered some Tintin books it arrived in good print quality. Satisfied
5.0 out of 5 stars The missing TinTin book
Excellent book. Shame people are too offended these days.
4.0 out of 5 stars For completionists.
Herge's early work, still finding his feet. Probably the weakest Tintin book. Still worth a look. Of it's time.
5.0 out of 5 stars It's Tintin
It's Tintin as it was - which needs to have the warnings that are included on the cover and description. While most of the collected Tintin works are described as complete, this particular volume is excluded. This is because it represents the attitude of European society at the time of writing towards Africa and it's people, the roles of missionaries, and around game hunting.Personally, I think they way the book is presented is correct - acknowledge that it represents what was, and that it is no longer appropriate in modern society, but also don't hide it away,. Use it as a learning opportunity to improve current perspectives.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good to find and get it delivered quickly
Perhaps on the expensive sideGreat story
5.0 out of 5 stars Of its time … completes the collection
As the introduction makes clear it’s of its time and very much not PC from any number of angles. But nonetheless a classic Tintin story that any completionist should read so as not to leave them traumatised from not having read all the books.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Takes you back !
Finally!
Finally got that! Whole Tintin collection was incomplete without this. A rare collection of course!
Rekommenderas starkt!
Good quality and hardcover
The book was everything (and more) than I expected it to be. Due to the controversial colonial attitude the story portrays, availability of this book is limited, so if you want to complete your collection, I suggest in doing so soon before it is fazed out.
Simple Storyline
The storyline was somehow simple and at some points unbelievable compared to the later series.
Perfect
Good quality, goes well into the rest of the collection. my husband was missing this edition, he is very happy.
