Wild Fishing: Britain's 700 most spectacular, secluded and affordable places for native angling (travel guide)

Description:

Focusing on the beauty of remote, natural environments and native fish species, this new guide moves away from commercial fisheries and overstocked ponds to introduce the reader to wild fishing. A more sustainable, eco-conscious approach, with an emphasis on affordability, the book reveals the 700 best wild fishing locations across the UK, from quiet rivers and mountain lakes to rugged coastal shores. Among its featured sites are the River Wandle in London, where Admiral Nelson once fished, Chesil Beach in Dorset, where deep water is close to the shore, Llyn Ogwen, in Snowdonia, steeped in Arthurian legend, and Loch Maree, in Wester Ross, where the stunning Highland views are as prized as the sea trout. Whether you’re fishing for bass off Cornwall or angling for brown trout in Wales, this guide is your gateway to Britain's most adventurous angling.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a terrific book!

In most parts of the UK, access to fishing is strictly controlled and can be costly to obtain. This book lists 700 locations across the country where an angler can fish either free of charge or at relatively low cost by way of day tickets bought from the Club that controls a given stretch of water or from an organisation such as Fishing Passport. It is an invaluable resource. The book covers locations offering fishing for both coarse and game fish. It emphasises fly fishing but covers all options including lure, boat, etc. Streams, rivers, lakes, reservoirs and coastal venues are mentioned. It offers useful directions for e.g., car parking and many venues are shown in the excellent photographs.I wish that I had had a book like this when I started fishing many years ago! It will be a great help in planning holidays in the UK for the future.

My husband is super happy with this book! Well described locations. Loads of helpful info.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wrong Title. Superficial summary of UK waters in the present day.

S.S. · 13 August 2025

Nice pictures. Very superficial. The author totally avoids the extensive pollution issue we have in the UK. His home town river (the Lugg) being one of the most polluted in the UK, he positions it as idyllic. I live there. It isn't! As for many of of the "Hidden Waters - they are not. Wild fishing? not really. Most are overfished locations.

Great book to find those unusual places to fish. Bought one for me and son in law

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so Wild

M.K.S. · 29 September 2025

Most of the waters listed in my area are actually club waters, so not so Wild. At one point I felt it was actually an advertisement for one of the largest clubs in the area.I'm not a member as so many rules, changes and restrictions stop it from being relaxed.
