This is an excellent hymn book. The content has clearly been very carefully selected and the accompaniments are very good. The indexing is particularly well done with a very good scriptural index as well as the liturgical index, children's index, alphabetical and metric indexes, composer/arranger's index, author/translator's index, and of course, first lines and tunes. There are a great many old favourite hymns, but also a good selection of more modern ones. The Psalms have been set for congregational reading. The size of the book is 14 1/2 cms wide and 21 1/2 cms long. It is quite thick - 5 1/2 cms - but sits well on my piano reading desk The paper is of a good thickness compared with some other hymn books in common usage - important to an organist or pianist.

Required because some preachers at my church, of which I am organist, select hymns from this book. In common with most, if not all, modern books, many hymn words have been needlessly mangled to conform to the idiotic PC brigade. Binding, as usual today, is stiff and hard to keep open on the music stand., the more so considering the considerable thickness of the book. Useful for a source of tunes, but words of older hymns need to be taken from an old book to obtain and sing the lyrics intended by the author.

Bought for my dad who is a Methodist minister, this hymn book has become the staple in most Methodist churches. Take the plunge and invest in becoming a more modern church. Granted this book won’t solve all the modernising issues within the Methodist tradition but it’s a good first step as it contains all the traditional classics we all love and adds in a few modern classics.

This is the current hymn book used by the Methodist Church in Britain and as such contains something like 800 hymns from all periods. Comprehensive and well laid out.

Dissapointed with the book as a whole. Too many alterations with the harmony, many of the "traditional" singable tunes not present. Its all righthaving modern tunes and words, some are quite singable, but howlong will they last? and was there a need for the new book? where are theWelsh hymns - not one published. I think that the present Mission Praise would have been more beneficial, even without the Welsh Hymns.
