The Gnomes of Grimblewood: Enchanting friends to knit, full of magic and mischief

Description:

About this item:

Discover 8 enchanting little gnomes to knit, from popular knitting designer and gnome enthusiast, Sarah Schira.

In the depths of Grimblewood forest, tucked away under rustling pine and spruce trees, you’ll find the Grimblewood gnomes: an eclectic and kindly bunch, ready to welcome anyone who rambles their way. From Gnorri, the skilled gardener tending to the Ancient Oak, to Gnoddy, who loves a cup of acorn and chanterelle tea, here is a charming circle of gnomes to knit and befriend...

Need-to-gnome:

  • Discover all the materials and notions you need, as well as all the necessary know-how, including how to block, stuff and assemble your gnomes to create their distinct personalities.
  • Any knitting needles suitable for small circumference knitting can be used to make all the gnomes in the book, and the patterns are deliberately kept "needle agnostic" to allow you to use your favourite methods too.
  • Each gnome has their own distinguishing features: choose from hats with earflaps, cablework, tassels or whimsical curled tips; knit outfits with colourwork details, stripes or cabling; create majestic beards with corkscrew curls or delicate loops, or even add some beard pockets!
  • Suitable for confident knitters, the book contains all the necessary colourwork and cable charts, along with Sarah’s ‘Chart of Everything’: the ultimate guide to calculating the yarn weights you need for each and every gnome.
  • Every gnome is made in two weights of yarn – fingering (4-ply) and light worsted (DK/8-ply) – so you can knit your chosen new friend in a small or medium size. Or both!
  • Advice is given on how to adapt your gnomes to make them child-friendly, if you wish to make friends for the little ones in your life.

Discover all the materials and notions needed, as well as the know-how, to block, stuff and assemble gnomes with distinct personalities. Each one is made in 4-ply and DK, to knit a small or medium size and the book is more suitable for confident hand-knitters.

Machine Knitting Monthly, December 2024

Here it is, the book of knitting patterns for those delightful, knitted gnomes that pop up on various knitting blogs and social media websites dedicated to our crafts. The patterns are the creation of Sarah Schira who writes this book with a whimsical touch showing her love for her growing gnome family.

There are well illustrated instructions for the different techniques used to make the gnomes, as well as useful tip boxes, along with a useful page of abbreviations, materials and equipment needed. There are patterns for nine gnomes, ranging from Gnoodles, the smallest gnome, to Gnatelia, the colourwork gnome, as well as other gnomes that feature cabling and lace-type patterns. The patterns are adaptable, with instructions and needle sizes given for both dk and fingering weight variations. They are great little projects and perfect for using up a stash of hand dyed and handspun yarn.

Each pattern is written in such a way that it is possible to mix and match between the gnomes - you can choose your own beard type and size, or shape of nose, as well as endless possible colour combinations and yarn types.

Gnoodles the Gnome has already joined my little household, and I envision more gnomes will soon be flying off my needles to join him.

About the Author

“Once upon a time, there was a knitter who loved gnomes. She was always cold and couldn’t understand why she was knitting and knitting (and knitting) gnomes rather than cardigans. All she knew was that as she stitched on the beard and the gnome popped into life, complete with a personality and a life history, she would instantly wonder about doing it again.”

Sarah Schira is a knitting designer who loves gnomes. A lot. Her gnome patterns on her Ravelry shop and own website have sold in their thousands, and she has an adoring gnome-loving following across multiple platforms – she has over 22,000 followers on Instagram alone. To her delight, many knitters have joined her hashtag, #nevernotgnoming.

When Sarah’s not knitting gnomes, she’s working on knitting accessories for everyday adventures, filming knitting tutorials for her YouTube channel, and planning cycling and hiking trips.

Sarah lives in Manitoba, Canada, with her husband.

What a superb, lovely and humorous wee book. The author clearly adores Gnomes and had put so much thought into her designs for each wee person. The patterns are clearly written with many useful tips added in to facilitate easy knitting. I'm not a toy knitter but I will be giving these gnomes a go as they look such good fun. Can really recommend this wonderful book for knitters wanting to diversify into gnomes.

Lovely book that didn't disappoint.Lots of easy to follow patterns and photos

4.0 out of 5 stars Ok if you can use DPNs

C. · 6 February 2025

Lovely book and wonderful patterns. However it would have been helpful if it had been mentioned in the description of the book that most of the knitting is worked on DPNs (double pointed needles), and the rest on circular needles. Not a problem for me, but I've seen one review where the buyer has returned the book, and others where the patterns have not yet been worked and the review is based on the look of the beautiful gnomes.

Beautiful Book!

Lovely Book with Creative Patterns

Bolo offers the best pricing ever. I already made the hiker and added a backpack. Learned a lot of new skills. I don't usually work on such a small gauge but making this was addictive. Highly recommend. Just make sure to take frequent breaks.

Excellent and lovely book!

Love this book! Love gnomes! This is a fantastic addition to my shelf of knitting pattern books! I’ve been making gnomes for a few years now and all of them designed by this designer! They’re whimsical and fun and I’ve learned so many new shaping techniques, even as an experienced knitter!I love having a physical book with gnome patterns and really enjoyed knitting up my first pattern of this book: the lovely pocket gnome!

très original

Tout ces gnomes sont plus attirants les uns que les autres : de bons moments de tricot en perspective !

Precioso

C.A. · 14 October 2024
