Model Builders' Manual (Haynes Manuals): A practical introduction to building plastic model construction kits

Description:

This manual takes the reader through how modern model kits are designed and manufactured, how the scale is decided upon (most modern kits are made to established scales so that models and accessories are compatible with one another), as well as providing advice on model-building tools and techniques. The down-to-earth text, complemented by numerous photographs, provides details of the ideal `workshop' set-up for building models; tools and adhesives required; paint types and application techniques - from brushing to using aerosol cans, airbrushing and paint booths; the wide variety of decals available, and how to make your own; basic building techniques, and how to construct dioramas to put models into an appropriate `setting'. A comprehensive introduction for those new to model-making, along with expert advice for those already experienced in making models who wish to hone their skills.

Book received on time in good condition.Where it answered a lot of questions, however there was quite a bit on the history of modeling which wasn't really what I wanted or needed

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

S. · 22 May 2020

I’ve bought many Haynes manuals previously for car servicing and repairs that have been beyond helpful. Unfortunately this is the complete opposite. The first 65 and last 30 pages are full of guff you don’t need to know to make a model. The bit in between us ok, but Nothing special, and to be honest you’re better off spendIng the cost of the book on a model, and look up how to make it on YouTube.

Great Product

P.V. · 1 December 2023

Great reference work for any model builder.

Provides a good overall introduction to the model makers world

S.M. · 5 September 2021

Book covers some high-level overviews into the modelling world. Kit manufacturers, explanation of scale, general assembly procedures, tools required, etc. etc. What it does not cover is detailed assembly techniques, painting and finishing, etc. That said it does contain enough general information to start building models to a high standard. The early Haynes manuals were based on a full strip and rebuild of whatever they were writing about. I think this book may have benefited by following a number of full builds across a range of model types, scales and finishing styles.
