5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Absolutely brilliant read. Very well written, telling the story of woodys life with the Rollers. Some very happy and funny times and some not so much. Definitely recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great read. Brought back many memories
Great insight into what those young lads went through. I think I fell in love with Woody all over again. Had a 5 year daughter who was a 'Roller' herself. What a joy to read, couldn't put it down.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
Iam a old BCR fan & loved reading Woodys book,things I didn’t know about in there,what a life,very interesting
4.0 out of 5 stars A satisfying read.
A surpisingingly interesting read. Well written, well structured. As autobiographies go, this one is up to speed. I applaud Wood's decision to not get into the Tam Paton abuse topic, and I fully support his prerogative to voice his opinion on his bandmates. If McKeown was a difficult individual to work with (or even be around), Wood has every right to share those details. It's his book. And at just over 300 pages, it's no small tome. I don't think it's brilliant, by any means, but it doesn't have to be. His story is quite captivating, no one who hadn't been in those situations could ever understand them, and he does a great job of getting the experiences across. No one gets to tell anyone how to write their life story. Except their editor. This was a satisfying read, for someone whose favourite Roller was Stuart "Woody" Wood.
5.0 out of 5 stars Honest & Authentic Best Seller - A Literary Gem!
Stuart Woody Wood’s autobiography ‘Mania” rocketed to Bolo’s #1 Best Seller list and this should not come as a surprise to anyone. Most will know that in his early teens, Woody developed a deep-rooted passion for music, playing in a band and a youthful eagerness to learn all he could to become a better musician. All pretty normal until… he was thrust into a strange new world of the Bay City Rollers - of orders barked from Tam the ‘potato man’, confronting and sometimes frightening scenes of hysterical tartan-clad fans, the recording studios, the concerts, the deals and so much more. I’ll leave those details for the reader to enjoy without divulging too much information. The book’s appeal comes from the author’s telling of the story with honesty and authenticity. Wood’s tone is calm and measured and it is easy for the reader to be transported back in time and feel they’re standing alongside Woody, experiencing everything that he did. It’s an incredible journey for the reader to embark upon with the author, as Stuart relives the highs and lows of life as a Bay City Roller and beyond.Stuart Wood’s sense of humour shines throughout the book and some of the anecdotes he retells from the past will literally have the reader laughing out loud and savouring every moment! He concedes that in his early years, he could be quite mischievous or ‘tricky’ and admits this quality stayed with him over the years.Wood captures the relationships between band members with incisive precision. His calm telling of events is a philosophical reflection and allows the reader to fully appreciate what was experienced – without the exaggeration, without the drama – just the facts and his perceptions of the people around him and the experiences he lived. It’s not all pleasant because, let’s be honest, not all people are very pleasant but it’s honest, accurate and gives valuable insight into the psychology of those in the band closest to him. He understands some members have been damaged more than others and each individual dealt with their demons in their own way. There’s the bullying, the betrayals, the punch-ups but importantly, there’s also the clarity the reader gets from getting the full unadulterated story of what went on behind the scenes. Stuart Wood is not afraid to tell the truth. There’s no doubt that there will be those who have concocted a different version of the truth in their minds and who will try and unfairly and unjustifiably criticise the book. Their inability to appreciate such an uplifting and accurate version of events from the one person who bore witness to all of it, will mean it is their loss. It is, after all, his reflection of those people and events in his life that played some part in shaping the person he is today. His life, his story and no one can take that from him. No other person experienced a life like his nor can they pretend to know more than him.Kudos to Stuart Wood, the longest serving member of the Bay City Rollers, for having the courage and common sense to tell the truth behind the story that needed to be told.
5.0 out of 5 stars Remembering happy times
Brilliant read, other rollers books more about name dropping than story, woodys book really brings back those 70s memories
5.0 out of 5 stars Mania Stuart “Woody” Wood
This book is a must for Bay City Roller fans. The stories are incredible. Well done.

Finished this book, it is an excellent read. A good account of what Woody went through, very honest and well written.
A great book or memories, music, and mayhem
A great book or memories, music, and mayhem from a man who lived it with the Bay City Rollers. Great read - great stories - and a great life on the rock n' roll train covered in tartan. Thank you, Woody, for sharing your talent and storytelling with the fan. #grateful
My review
I absolutely loved this book, it was heartfelt with areas that was probably unknown to fans at the time, so happy Woody has found his happy place in life, this is so deserved.

What a read!
I was a Les girl growing up. But like most preteens, I suddenly disappeared from the Roller scene, like many, as we started to grow up and discover real boys. I didn’t catch up to their journey post-Roller years till the internet came along. Was saddened by all the dark stuff they had to endure. Was then interested in where they all landed after so many years. Have read & watched everything I could find on them, deep diving in social chat rooms, and finally reading each of their books. WOW! Woody’s book really fills in the gaps & with care shares what the latter years were like for a true survivor of all the mania. Thanks Woody, for such a well-written and thoughtful book.
A real eye opener.
This was one big roller-coaster ride to read.I cried, laughed, gasped and at times felt such shock.Tam Paton was more controlling than we ever knew.Wood's story really shocked me.I've been a fan since the 70s, followed them with Duncan, reunions. Seen them a dozen times and yet it still hurt in places reading it.I loved seeing them in Australia in the mid 80s but reading the account of it, really saddened me.I always knew Les had one big ego which was evident in certain interviews and it seems it was oh so much more. McKeown spoilt so much of their time together with his ego.Yes, at times I was so blown away and it really saddened me to the extent the band was mistreated and friendships were not what we thought they were. The end of the book I felt was Woody getting things off his chest, at times I wasn't sure they should of been included. He really stated how he felt about each band member. Also defending his wife, which of course is warranted but zi don't believe she's all innocent.I think the band was bigger than its members at times.Woody also was very differently portrayed than he actually was. He was much stronger than they made him out to be in interviews and their TV show.Ultimately these boys were treated dreadfully. They were robbed by people who should of been looking out for them. It's all very shocking. If you think you knew their time together, well you/me probably didn't.Yes, there is some major Les dislike, but I think he probdeserved itA great read and my teenage heart hurt reading it.Congratulations Woody on a number one seller.
