About the Author

Murray Lachlan Young was born in Washington, DC, in 1969 to Scottish and English parents and was brought up in Sevenoaks in Kent. His poetry career began in the underground poetry/cabaret nights of mid-nineties London. Word of his unique style of writing and performing soon spread and he was signed by record company Almo Sounds and given a series on MTV USA.

Murray then toured with various bands, including Julian Cope and the Pretenders, and performed on the main stage at T in the Park and Glastonbury festivals. In 1996 he was signed by EMI in a recording deal that saw him dubbed, for a while, the ‘Million Pound Poet’. He took a break between 1998 and 2003 to recover from this ordeal and moved to West Cornwall where he lived until 2013.

He returned to writing and performing and is now best known as an ‘across network’ performer on BBC radio. He has appeared regularly on BBC Radio 4’s
Saturday Live, Radio 5 Live and Test Match Special. Since 2011 Murray has been resident poet at BBC Radio 6 Music. Murray has two sons and now lives in London.

Review:

5.0 out of 5 stars I absolutely love this poetry book

I absolutely love this poetry book. I bought it after seeing an interview with Murray Lachlan Young on TV and I wasn't disappointed. Have a look on YouTube to see live performances .. though don't be surprised if when reading the poetry, you then fall in to a pseudo Lachlan Young accent. So witty, but also thought provoking. Well worth a read... you will want more :)

Love this so much that I bought a second copy for my best friend. I find myself reading the poems with an accent. For me Thong has to sound like Billy Connolly, If you're gonna go Keith has to be Keith Richards himself, God bless the naked rambler can only be Pam Ayres, etc. Brilliant.

I am trying to cool my roaring laughter to modest chuckles but failing. Great talent - can't think why I've not come across Murray before.
