The New Testament for Everyone: Third Edition, with Introductions, Maps and Glossary of Key Words

Description:

'Fresh, insightful and accessible.. . . An excellent resource.' - The Reader

If the gospel cannot be understood by everyone, then it is not good news. From the very first days of the church at Pentecost, the good news of Jesus was translated into the languages of ordinary people through the power of the Holy Spirit, spreading like wildfire to the ends of the earth.

This newly typeset edition of Tom Wright's hugely popular English Bible translation features light revisions throughout the text, along with brief introductions to each biblical book, a range of informative maps and a substantial glossary of key words.

Fresh, dynamic and absorbing, Tom Wright's
New Testament for Everyone can be read like a novel, studied in sections or used as a daily resource for reflection and devotion.

"Fresh, insightful and accessible. . . this translation directs the reader to new lines of thought and reflection, especially helpful with some of the best known and perhaps over-familiar passages. . . An excellent resource." -- The Reader

"I love the easy flow of the narrative, and the way it is broken down into bite-sized chunks. . . This truly is
a book for Everyone." -- The Good Bookstall

Sparkles with many gems of spirited English. -- Books & Culture

Review:

3.0 out of 5 stars Has good points, but not in fact for everyone

This book is bigger and heavier than I expected (in fact, it's bigger than many complete Bibles). So it's not handy to carry around. While the title is "The New Testament for Everyone", Wright's translation isn't everyone's cup of tea. It's more in the style of a popular novel. He translates "Christ" as "the Messiah". In John 1:1, where most versions have "the Word was with God", Wright has "the Word was close beside God". Where most versions use "for", in the sense of "because", Wright has "you see".On the plus side, there is a short introduction to each book, explaining its purpose and context. In Acts there are lots of maps showing the places mentioned in the text, where the apostles went. There is also a handy glossary at the back. For me it was the maps which interested me most in buying it, instead of other New Testaments on the market. If you just want to read the text, in a more popular translation like the KJV, RSV or NIV, I would go elsewhere.
